IG Metall has lost much in support of the works council elections in the Volkswagen Group. In particular, the union lost more than ten percentage points in the Wolfsburg plant. At the same time, AfD-affiliated lists in individual plants were able to gain mandates for the first time.
At Europe's largest car manufacturer Volkswagen, the AfD-affiliated association Zentrum is represented directly in a works council for the first time.
While the feared shift to the right failed to materialize in the VW works council elections in Zwickau, the organization Zentrum, considered close to the AfD, has for the first time gained seats on the works council at the Braunschweig plant. The IG Metall union nevertheless considers this a positive result.
At VW, for the first time, an AfD-affiliated employee organisation is represented on the works council. Both candidates were elected.
For the first time, the Organisation Zentrum, which is considered to be close to the AfD, moves into a works council at VW – albeit not in Wolfsburg. In the election in Braunschweig, it was enough for 2 of the 35 seats there.
