Brampton man charged in 2 extortion-related shootings in Peel Region
A 25-year-old Brampton man faces multiple charges including arson and reckless firearm discharge linked to extortion attempts targeting a residence and business.
- Peel Regional Police investigators arrested 25-year-old Iqbal Bhagria on November 7, charging him with two counts of recklessly discharging a firearm, arson, firearm possession, and uttering a forged document.
- At approximately 2:50 a.m., footage captured two suspects at a residence near Old School Road and Creditview Road, Caledon, Ont., with one pouring accelerant and igniting the driveway on Oct. 26.
- A short time later, surveillance shows a suspect firing several rounds from a vehicle near Advance Boulevard and Dixie Road, north of Highway 407, before fleeing in a silver BMW SUV.
- Police say no injuries were reported in either incident, but one suspect remains outstanding as Peel Regional Police continue the investigation.
- Investigators confirmed Bhagria remains in custody pending a bail hearing after Peel Regional Police investigators, with Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit, assisted in his arrest.
