Brainerd man accused of killing co-worker with hydraulic grapple on job in Apple Valley
Prosecutors say Christopher Boone Crimmins was the only licensed operator on the crew and faces up to 10 years in prison.
- On August 20, 34-year-old Christopher Boone Crimmins was charged with second-degree manslaughter after allegedly crushing co-worker Tyler Anthony Lynch, 26, with a hydraulic grapple during a tree-trimming job in Apple Valley, Minnesota.
- Crimmins told police he and Lynch had been "f---ing around" on Thursday, manipulating shadows cast by the hydraulic grapple; distracted by the shadows, Crimmins unknowingly lowered the machinery onto Lynch's head.
- Police discovered Lynch on the ground with significant head trauma; witnesses reported seeing the grapple strike his head. Crimmins was the only crew member with a commercial driver's license to operate the boom.
- The felony second-degree manslaughter charge carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence and a $20,000 fine. Bail is set at $40,000 unconditional or $20,000 with conditions; as of Sunday, Crimmins was not listed in Dakota County Jail records.
- Crimmins is due in Dakota County District Court on September 10 for an omnibus hearing. It remains unclear whether he has retained legal counsel to represent him against the manslaughter charge.
