Teen found dead after being falsely accused of stealing ashes
Kai Lloyd faced bullying and distress after false accusations of stealing baby ashes circulated on social media, leading to his suicide eight days after arrest, authorities said.
- On November 19, 2021, Kai Benjamin Lloyd, 14-year-old pupil, was found hanged at his family home in Connah's Quay days after his November 11 arrest over an ashes theft allegation.
- On November 8, Lisa Lloyd received a message from Chloe Robinson saying 'Tell him thanks for burgling my flat'; Robinson later claimed her baby's ashes were stolen, but investigators concluded she had 'lied to police'.
- Following the coverage, Kai — who had mild ADHD — was bullied at Connah's Quay High School and his mother said social media and national press posts were really upsetting.
- Senior coroner John Gittins concluded there is no evidence agencies caused or contributed to Kai's death, and the family accepts this, Ms Blackstock told the court.
- The coroner will await police reports on ADHD-related procedures before deciding on a Prevention of Future Deaths report, while Connah's Quay High School has introduced new safeguarding roles under headteacher James Forber.
