Both British Columbia NDP, Conservative leader campaigned in the Okanagan Friday
Eby said the cap would cover six staples and protect shoppers from higher retail margins as his party seeks to ease food costs.
On Friday, NDP Leader David Eby unveiled a "Price Guard" policy in Kelowna to cap retail profit margins on staples including milk, eggs, cheese, butter, chicken, and turkey.
A B.C. family of four spends more than $17,500 annually on groceries, up more than 25 per cent from five years ago, prompting Eby to extend marketing board protections to retail consumers.
In the Okanagan, Interim Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson countered by promising to spend half a billion dollars on a Crown-owned water-bomber fleet and innovation fund to improve wildfire response.
Kelowna-Mission candidate Gavin Dew criticized the proposal as "the arsonist offering to put out the fire," citing Eby's failure to deliver a promised $1,000 grocery rebate from the last election.
Ahead of the Oct. 24 election, Eby will continue campaign stops in Summerland and other communities before returning to Victoria for a rally on Sunday, Oct. 4.
