Bonnie Tyler 'Stable' in Portuguese Hospital
Doctors are treating a serious infection after surgery for a burst appendix, and the singer remains in intensive care after being resuscitated.
On Friday, 74-year-old Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler suffered cardiac arrest and remains in intensive care at Faro Hospital in Portugal. Doctors are treating a serious infection caused by a perforated intestine.
Tyler initially felt unwell during a London concert and later traveled to the Algarve, where her appendix ruptured, according to longtime friend Liberto Mealha. Emergency surgery followed two days after severe abdominal pain began.
The singer was placed in an induced coma to "aid her recovery" following the operation. Her husband, Robert Sullivan, expressed gratitude to Faro Hospital staff, believing they saved her life.
Doctors are attempting to control the infection with high doses of antibiotics. Longtime friend Mealha told reporters doctors remain "positive" she will recover, though uncertainty about her condition's development persists.
Despite admitting she has "slowed down" in recent years, Tyler has refused to retire. The performer is scheduled to begin her Jubilee tour on May 22 in Malta, spanning multiple European nations.
