Body of 7-Year-Old NY Girl Exhumed After Suffering Months of Torture, Prosecutors Say
Authorities say the exhumation may help uncover evidence in the death of the 7-year-old, who suffered about 90 injuries, prosecutors said.
- The body of 7-year-old Jor'Dynn Duncan was exhumed recently after her mother, Portia Duncan, authorized the Suffolk County District Attorney to conduct the procedure, according to attorney Heather Palmore.
- Duncan died Dec. 29 in Bayport after enduring months of alleged systematic cruelty and abuse, with The Suffolk County Medical Examiner reporting she had about 90 injuries on her body.
- Three women facing charges are legal guardian Emily Kelly, her mother Barbara Renner, and Elyssa Seymore; all three have pleaded not guilty and are awaiting trial.
- Attorney Heather Palmore announced a lawsuit will be filed shortly, stating institutions tasked with protecting children "failed her" in their duty to intervene.
- In July, attorneys for Portia Duncan filed a notice of claim alleging the Bayport-Blue Point School District was negligent, while the Suffolk County District Attorney declined to comment on the investigation.
