Bodies of three women recovered from sea off Brighton
Authorities are working to identify the women and determine how they entered the water after a major search involving helicopters and lifeboats.
On Wednesday morning, the bodies of three women were recovered from the water at Brighton Beach, according to Sussex Police.
Emergency services responded to the scene around 5:45am following reports of 'concerns for the welfare' of three women in the sea.
Rescue crews scrambled to the seafront with a helicopter, two lifeboats, and coastguard vessels alongside a significant police presence to conduct the search operation.
Chief Superintendent Adam Hays described the incident as 'tragic' and urged the public to stay away from the scene while investigations continue.
Police have not yet identified the women as fast-moving inquiries are underway to determine what happened, with further updates to follow as soon as available.
