Bobby Seale to Reissue ‘Seize the Time’ and Publish New Memoir ‘I, Bobby’ – WTOP News
The reissue adds a D.L. Hughley introduction and new e-book and audio editions as Seale prepares a memoir on the Panthers' internal fractures.
Black Panther co-founder Bobby Seale, approaching his 90th birthday, announced on Tuesday he is reissuing his 1970 jailhouse memoir 'Seize the Time' and releasing a new book in the coming years.
Labeled by then-FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover as the country's 'greatest threat to internal security,' The Black Panthers peaked in the late 1960s before declining amid internal divisions and FBI infiltration.
'Every time somebody tells my story wrong, a piece of the movement gets buried with the lie,' Seale said in a statement issued by Blackstone Publishing, explaining his motivation to set the record straight.
'Seize the Time,' which had fallen out of print in recent years, will include an introduction by actor-comedian D.L. Hughley and will be available for the first time in e-book and audio editions.
Since leaving the organization, Seale has taught Black studies at Temple University and collaborated with photographer Stephen Shames on 'Power to the People: The World of the Black Panthers,' published in 2016.
