Piece of Bob Marley’s Dreadlocks to Sell for Thousands
The 1.5-inch dreadlock, the first genuine piece of Bob Marley’s hair sold in over 20 years, includes his autograph and is expected to fetch up to £25,000 at JC Auctions.
A 1.5-inch dreadlock from Bob Marley is up for auction at JC Auctions in Bristol, with bidding expected to reach up to £25,000. The online sale concludes on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
Andrea Reed, now 62, acquired the memento in June 1978 at a Top of the Pops performance at the BBC Television Centre, where Marley granted the then-14-year-old permission to take a piece of his hair.
Recalling the interaction, Reed described the hair crunching off "like a bag of crisps" when she twisted it. She kept the lock sealed for decades before deciding it was time for another collector to appreciate it.
Paul Fraser of JC Auctions noted the lot includes an autograph worth around £4,000, adding that demand for Marley memorabilia remains high. This is the first genuine piece of the singer's hair to appear at auction since 2003.
This lock is one of 50+ rare pieces of history featured in the current sale, underscoring Marley's enduring appeal to collectors seeking authenticated memorabilia from the reggae legend.
