10 dead, at least 20 missing after boat capsizes in Bihar’s Raghopur
On Tuesday, a boat carrying around 15 people capsized in the Ganga River near Rampur in Vaishali, with nine rescued and several others feared dead. The State Disaster Response Force and local residents launched search operations.
The vessel reportedly collided with a submerged boulder amid flooding in the Terasia Diara area, as Bihar faces a deepening crisis affecting 50 lakh people across 576 gram panchayats in 15 districts.
Preliminary reports indicate most victims are minors traveling to attend a post-funeral feast in the Raghopur Assembly constituency, represented by Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.
Opposition Tejashwi Yadav stated, "Most of those who drowned are children," and directed officials to expedite rescue, relief, and medical assistance in the Diara area of Raghopur.
Authorities have sounded alerts for areas downstream of the Ganga as the river crossed the highest flood level at Sultanganj in Bhagalpur district, affecting more than 35 lakh people in 14 districts.
