Many citizens feel that criminal threats are emerging or intensifying everywhere. Unfortunately, they are not mistaken, but the investigators are not solely responsible for this.
The BKA observes a profound change in organized crime. Gangs acted internationally, digitally networked - and brutally. Perpetrators are now also recruited via social media.
The annual damage caused by clans, mafia and rocker gangs increases to 2.8 billion euros. Investigators are concerned that the actions are becoming more and more brutal – and many suspects are very young.
According to the BKA, criminal gangs are increasingly using excessive violence. The new "site picture of organized crime" also shows: perpetrators, including drug trafficking, are more professional.
While foreclosure for organized crime has long been normal, younger criminal actors - the "Gen-Z-Mafia" - are increasingly staging themselves in social media. BKA President Holger Münch says about the new situation picture that criminal networks are now much more digitally networked, international and part-time.
