Salman Sagar Blames BJP’s ‘Operation Lotus’ for Ruhullah’s Exit From NC
The National Conference leader resigned after 24 years in the party, while a deputy chief minister said the BJP had misled him.
On Tuesday, Ruhullah Mehdi resigned from his Lok Sabha seat and the National Conference during a rally in Budgam, ending his 24-year association with the party.
Ruhullah chose his father's death anniversary to announce his resignation; Aga Syed Mehdi was assassinated in a suspected militant attack in 2000, after which Ruhullah contested the assembly election from Budgam.
On Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary described Ruhullah as a 'decent' and 'respectable person' who has been 'misled' by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Choudhary cited national general secretary Ram Madhav's claim that the rally had 'the blessings of BJP people' and accused opposition leader Sunil Sharma of offering Ruhullah a 'lollipop.'
Reports indicate 10 National Conference legislators expressed discontentment, with Ruhullah accusing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of betraying promises to restore Jammu and Kashmir's special status.
