Many species of sharks and rays are facing increasing pressure from overfishing and climate change.
More than 70 species may no longer be traded internationally, or only on a very limited scale.
The protection of more than 70 species of sharks and rays has been strengthened by the World Reference Body on Wildlife Trade, which approved additional measures on Friday, 28 November, including the ban on trade in whale sharks, manta rays and mobula rays.
