Karnataka to Hike Milk Prices by Rs 8 per Litre From November 1
Farmers will get Rs 7 of the increase, while cooperatives receive Re 1 after protests and demands for higher procurement prices.
- On Thursday, The Karnataka Cabinet decided to increase Nandini milk prices by Rs 8 per litre, effective November 1, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda announced in Bengaluru.
- Though dairy farmers demanded a Rs 10 per litre hike citing drought in Karnataka, the decision was deferred due to the election code of conduct during Legislative Council polls. Milk producers and cooperatives staged protests to press for the increase.
- Of the total increase, Rs 7 will go to farmers and Re 1 to the Karnataka Milk Federation. With this revision, the price paid to farmers rises from Rs 35 to Rs 42 per litre, totaling Rs 47 including the government incentive.
- Minister Krishna Byre Gowda stated the revision will benefit lakhs of farming families across Karnataka. Following the hike in milk prices, hotels are likely to increase their prices.
- "Although farmers demanded an increase of Rs 10 per litre, it was felt that so much increase cannot be done," Gowda said. The Cabinet settled on Rs 8 after deliberations.
