Hyundai Kona, Ioniq 5 EV Pricing Slashed by Thousands

Hyundai says the cuts and trimmed standard equipment are aimed at keeping its EVs competitive as sales of the Ioniq 5 slipped 38.5% this year.

  • Hyundai slashed entry-point pricing for its Kona Electric and Ioniq 5 ranges by up to $8,000. The Kona Electric Standard Range now starts at $46,000, while the Ioniq 5 RWD opens at $68,200.
  • Facing an "extremely price-competitive EV market," a Hyundai Australia spokesperson stated that competitors' popularity prompted the reductions. Ioniq 5 sales declined 38.5 per cent year-on-year, with just 224 registrations in the first five months of 2026.
  • Specific equipment changes accompany these price cuts, with the automaker removing standard wall socket charging cables and interior V2L ports from affected models. The Kona Electric Elite trim now slots between the base and Premium grades.
  • Until June 30, 2026, buyers can access drive-away deals on both ranges. The Kona Electric is available from $45,990 and the Ioniq 5 from $71,990, provided customers take delivery by the financial year-end.
  • Celebrating its 40th year in Australia, Hyundai utilizes its 170-strong dealer network to support sales amid competitive pressure. The brand's newer Elexio mid-size SUV has already recorded 549 registrations this year, outpacing Ioniq 5 performance.
