On the day of work, extreme left-wing riots occur again and again in the capital. This year, however, the forces draw a gratifying conclusion. The number of arrests is also low, according to police reports.
Berlin police assessed the May 1st operation as largely peaceful overall, despite isolated incidents. At a left-wing demonstration, fireworks were used and officers were attacked; nine police officers sustained minor injuries. Several thousand officers monitored rallies throughout the city.
Several thousand people participated in the traditional "Revolutionary May Day" demonstration organized by left-wing and far-left groups on Tuesday evening. They gathered at Oranienplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The demonstration was scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM, but there were initial delays. The march was planned to proceed from Oranienplatz in Kreuzberg to Sonnenallee in Neukölln and back to Südstern in Kreuzberg.
