Bergs wins Eastbourne final to clinch first ATP title
On Sunday, Zizou Bergs defeated Ugo Humbert 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the rain-delayed Eastbourne Open final at Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club in Britain, claiming his first tour-level title.
Humbert initially took command with a 5-3 lead to secure the first set, but Bergs fought back as the Frenchman committed 16 unforced errors in the second set.
Capitalizing on those errors, Bergs secured a 4-3 lead with a break in the final set. He clinched victory when Humbert hit a forehand wide into the net.
The 27-year-old Bergs became the first Belgian to win an ATP grass-court title in the Open Era, celebrating his maiden tour victory after losing two previous finals.
Bergs and Humbert will meet again in the first round at Wimbledon, as the Belgian prepares to carry his grass-court form into the upcoming major tournament.
