A Beninese journalist critical of the government was arrested in Abidjan, extradited to Cotonou and then imprisoned in Ouidah, in southern Benin. He is accused of "apology of terrorism", his lawyers informed on 13 July.

Beninese web activist Hugues Comlan Sossoukpè was arrested on 10 July 2025 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, before being promptly extradited to his home country, Benin. Presented to the Special Prosecutor ' s Office of the Court for the Suppression of Economic Crimes and Terrorism (CRIET) in Cotonou, the journalist was placed in pre-trial detention at the Ouidah Civil Prison.
