Search for missing Belgian hillwalker who disappeared in the Scottish Highlands
Police say the 45-year-old tourist did not return from a planned Cuillin Mountains route and has not contacted his family.
- On Sunday, September 13, 2026, 45-year-old Hector Patemore went missing while hillwalking on the Isle of Skye; Police Scotland launched a search after the tourist failed to return to the Glenbrittle Youth Hostel.
- Patemore planned to climb Sgurr na Banachdich and descend via Coire na Banachdich in the Cuillin Mountains. Sergeant David Mockett said, "Hector is an experienced hillwalker, and the route he planned to take is considered relatively straightforward."
- Standing 6ft 4in tall with a slim build, Patemore has a shaved head and stubble. He was last seen wearing a red jacket, a mustard hooded top, and a hat while carrying a rucksack.
- After being reported missing at 10:25pm on Sunday, officers are appealing for information via 101, quoting incident 3692. Sergeant David Mockett added, "We are growing increasingly concerned for his wellbeing and are appealing for anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to please get in touch."
- Police are particularly keen to speak with fellow hillwalkers who were in the area on Sunday, September 13. Officials believe these witnesses could provide information to help pinpoint the missing tourist's location and route.
