Brewed awakening: German beer sales lowest on record

Beer consumption in Germany has experienced a historic decline, with sales of only 3.9 billion litres in the first half of 2024. Demographic changes and consumer purchasing restraint contribute to this trend. A bright light are beer mixtures, whose sales have increased by 8.0 percent.
The Germans apparently drink significantly less beer: the sales in the first six months are as low as they have not been for more than three decades. However, there is a small glimmer of hope for breweries.

3.9 billion liters of beer were sold in Germany in the first half of the year. That is 6.3% less than in the same period last year. This is reported by the German statistics office, Destatis. Beer sales have never been lower since the statistics office began recording sales in 1993. Exports fell by 7.1% from last year.
