BC SPCA Takes in 46 Animals From Farm, All Available for Adoption Soon
The animals are in quarantine and will be available for adoption once medically cleared, with farm animals requiring specialized care at three BC SPCA barns.
The BC SPCA accepted 46 animals following a guardian's relocation, transferring them to facilities in Surrey, Kelowna, and Nanaimo for specialized care.
With no place to take their animals, the guardian made a compassionate decision to contact the SPCA, which is now managing the intake of 22 cats, 16 Call ducks, six Muscovy ducks, one sheep, and one goat.
They arrived in relatively good condition and are currently in quarantine until health testing can be completed, with staff using strict protocols including PPE and infectious disease testing.
Kahlee Demers, SPCA senior manager, said the animals have "already been through a big change," noting farm animals require an average of 29 days of care versus 10-14 days for cats.
Interested potential adopters can monitor the SPCA website at adopt.spca.bc.ca for availability once the animals receive medical clearance, as staff hope to provide stable homes quickly.
