B.C. man charged with sexual assault in Ontario

Police say the woman was taken to hospital after the alleged attack and the suspect was arrested without incident the same day.

  • Nazif Kamenjas of Maple Ridge was charged in North Bay following a sexual assault on July 30. North Bay Police arrested the 58-year-old on July 31 after the victim sought hospital treatment.
  • Kamenjas allegedly restrained and sexually assaulted the woman after encouraging her to consume an alcoholic beverage during a brief street encounter. She reported the incident to police on July 31.
  • Police released Kamenjas on bail with a court date set for August 25, 2026. Persons charged with a criminal offence are considered not guilty until the charges are proven in court.
  • "We are committed to thoroughly investigating these crimes," Assistant Deputy Chief Jeff Warner said. Kathleen Jodouin of Victim Services added that survivors deserve safety, support, and to be believed.
  • Community Services offers sexual assault support services to all individuals over the age of 19 in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. If in immediate danger, call 911.
