B.C. man charged with sexual assault in Ontario
Police say the woman was taken to hospital after the alleged attack and the suspect was arrested without incident the same day.
Nazif Kamenjas of Maple Ridge was charged in North Bay following a sexual assault on July 30. North Bay Police arrested the 58-year-old on July 31 after the victim sought hospital treatment.
Kamenjas allegedly restrained and sexually assaulted the woman after encouraging her to consume an alcoholic beverage during a brief street encounter. She reported the incident to police on July 31.
Police released Kamenjas on bail with a court date set for August 25, 2026. Persons charged with a criminal offence are considered not guilty until the charges are proven in court.
"We are committed to thoroughly investigating these crimes," Assistant Deputy Chief Jeff Warner said. Kathleen Jodouin of Victim Services added that survivors deserve safety, support, and to be believed.
