Peace Officer Cadets to Start New, Shorter RCMP Training Program in Chilliwack
The new ExPO program will bring 13 experienced officers into an accelerated cadet stream, with graduates set for frontline posts across B.C. and Yukon.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the RCMP welcomed 13 Experienced Peace Officers into the new ExPO program during a ceremony at BC RCMP headquarters in Surrey, marking what Assistant Commissioner John Brewer called a "significant milestone."
Launched in July 2026, the ExPO program recognizes the knowledge and value experienced peace officers bring from previous work in law enforcement, creating a new pathway for seasoned professionals to join the RCMP.
Cadets will undergo an accelerated 3.5-month training course at the Pacific Region Training Centre in Chilliwack, nearly half the length of the standard six-month RCMP Depot training offered in Saskatchewan.
Members will graduate in March 2027 and be placed into frontline positions throughout British Columbia and the Yukon to serve communities across both jurisdictions.
The RCMP plans to expand the ExPO program to other provinces and territories in the coming months, extending this recruitment innovation beyond British Columbia and Yukon.
