Following the arrest and removal from office of Menderes Mayor İlkay Çiçek, and ahead of today's election for acting mayor of Menderes, Çağatay Güç, the İzmir Provincial Chairman of the NEW Party, announced that Barış Gürsoy is their candidate for acting mayor.
Prior to the Menderes mayoral elections, negotiations between the CHP and the NEW Party failed to reach an agreement. The municipality is expected to fall to the AKP. The NEW Party stated that they would support the CHP's candidate if they remained in the final round, but they expect the same level of sensitivity from the CHP.
