More and more EU countries, including Germany, are now introducing temporary, strict personal controls at their own internal Schengen borders to curb illegal immigration.
Several Member States have reintroduced border controls, starting with France and, more importantly, Germany. In a context of extreme right-wing push on the Old Continent, the European Commission, however "guardian of the Treaties", is fighting only very moderately against these violations of the rules.
