Barrick Names Bock to Lead Overseas Arm

Bock will lead Barrick’s gold and copper assets outside North America as the company targets more than 20% growth over three years, Barrick said.

  • On Tuesday, Barrick Mining Corp. appointed Sebastiaan Bock as Chief Executive Officer, Rest of World, effective immediately, leading gold and copper operations across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia Pacific.
  • Bock, a former Randgold Resources Ltd. executive, assumes the role amid a year-long leadership shakeup at Barrick, remaining one of the last surviving executives from the acquired firm in a senior position.
  • Under his leadership, the region consistently met or exceeded production forecasts every year, while Bock is credited with resolving a long-standing production dispute in Mali and achieving record throughput at Kibali.
  • The appointment follows Barrick's Monday announcement that President and CEO Mark Hill will lead the company's upcoming North American spin-out, as Barrick prepares to divest a 10 per cent stake in its North American division.
  • Barrick's Rest of World portfolio produces more than two million gold equivalent ounces annually and is expected to grow by more than 20% over the next three years under Bock's leadership.
