Bagnaia out of Qatar MotoGP with fractures in right foot
Bagnaia was taken away on a stretcher after the crash, and Fermin Aldeguer received a double long-lap penalty in the restarted sprint.
- The Qatar MotoGP Sprint was red-flagged shortly after the start when Fermin Aldeguer collided with Pecco Bagnaia, launching the factory Ducati rider into a highside crash. Bagnaia was stretchered off the track conscious.
- Attempting to overtake Pedro Acosta at Turn 15, Aldeguer misjudged his braking point and rammed into Bagnaia at the final corner. The Gresini Ducati rider was subsequently handed a double long lap penalty for the collision.
- Examinations at the Lusail circuit confirmed fractures in Bagnaia's right foot affecting the fourth and fifth metatarsals. He was transferred for further assessment and ruled out of the Qatar Grand Prix weekend.
- Aldeguer apologized to Bagnaia and Ducati, stating he did not believe he "made such a crazy move" while defending his attempt to regain position on Acosta. He finished the restarted sprint 11th after serving his penalty.
- Bagnaia's withdrawal disrupts Ducati's race strategy for the Qatar Grand Prix and marks a significant setback for his championship campaign. The team must now recalibrate its approach while awaiting further medical evaluation of the factory rider.
