A rental price brake for the unregulated area from 2026 confirms the vice chancellor in conversation with Klaus Webhofer
SPÖ CEO Andreas Babler promised a new rental price brake for the coming year at the ORF "Summer Talk" on Tuesday evening. This should also include free rents. He was also outraged that an "Austria supplement" would be added to the food sector of international corporations.
From 2026 on, the free rental market should be subject to a loop-in regulation in the event of inflation beyond three percent. The EU Commission is required to pay the Austrian surcharge in the supermarket.
SPÖ boss and vice chancellor Andres Babler announced further measures against inflation in the ORF "Summer Talk": In the autumn a second step is to be taken against higher rents and, as already announced in part, action is also to be taken on food and energy prices. However, Babler did not want to determine details – he also referred to negotiations within the tripartite coalition on other topics.
The regulation will apply from next year. Whether there will be interference with civil servants' salaries leaves Babler open.
