AWS Updates Its Nova Models To Compete With Google, Anthropic and OpenAI
AWS launched four upgraded AI models and Nova Forge, a $100,000-per-year service enabling enterprises to create customized AI models trained on proprietary data.
- On Tuesday, Amazon Web Services launched Nova 2 during Matt Garman's AWS Re:Invent keynote in Las Vegas as part of this year's upgrade to the Nova 2 model family.
- After debuting the original Nova family last year, this year AWS is upgrading Nova and introducing an enterprise service to broaden adoption.
- Among the technical highlights, Nova 2 Lite targets cost-sensitive reasoning at $0.3/$2.5 per million input/output tokens, while Nova 2 Pro handles complex tasks with prices starting at $1.25/$10.
- With adoption already broad, tens of thousands of customers use Nova, and AWS cited benchmarks placing Nova 2 Pro alongside Claude Sonnet 4.5, GPT-5, GPT-5.1 and Gemini 3 preview, with Nova Act delivering 90% reliability.
- AWS introduced Nova Forge to let enterprises train pre-trained, mid-trained or post-trained models on proprietary enterprise data, with Matt Garman warning post-training risks forgetting earlier reasoning and CNBC reporting early cloud customer interest.
