Around 100 firefighters tackle shop blaze in southeast London

Around 100 firefighters using 15 engines tackled a fire at a Forest Hill shop below flats, causing station closure and significant traffic disruption, officials said.

  • On Thursday evening, a huge fire broke out at a ground-floor shop on Perry Vale in Forest Hill, with the London Fire Brigade mobilising around 100 firefighters after calls at 6:27pm.
  • Authorities say the cause is unknown and the blaze spread to a single-storey workshop at the rear, with parts of the ground, first and second floors remaining alight on Thursday evening.
  • Crews mobilised from several local stations after multiple calls, receiving 49 calls and deploying teams from Forest Hill, Lewisham, Beckenham and West Norwood fire stations.
  • Significant traffic disruption is expected around Forest Hill, including the A205 South Circular Road, while Forest Hill station is part-closed with southbound trains not serving the station.
  • People in the local area are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke travel, and TfL has warned commuters to replan journeys as station commander Anthony Lewis confirmed crews will work through the night.
