'Best Advice' on Speed You Can Drive Before Cameras Catch You
WORCESTER, ENGLAND, JUL 18 – Community leaders and officials will discuss safety measures after multiple crashes, including a fatality, with calls for average speed cameras to reduce speeding on the A4440 road.
A meeting is planned for late July 2025 involving community leaders and a transport official to address recent accidents on the Southern Link Road in Worcester, notably the fatal motorcycle collision on June 15 that claimed the life of Marshall Myers.
Concerns about excessive speed causing crashes on the dual carriageway and roundabouts, with no legal speed tolerance beyond the limit, have prompted calls for better enforcement and safety reviews.
Speed cameras now use digital detection that can record average speeds and vehicle details without always flashing, while mobile units operate unpredictably in high-risk areas to deter speeding.
Officials emphasize that fines apply immediately from 1mph over the limit, speed awareness courses are offered selectively, and warns that assumptions like being safe at 35mph in a 30 zone are myths.
The meeting aims to address local safety concerns using ongoing audits of the A4440, while authorities stress enforcement and education remain vital to prevent the roughly 350 annual UK road fatalities.
