An avalanche spilled the road between Gampel-Steg and Goppenstein VS. The route was cleared again.
Snow masses had cut off the Lötschental. After several hours of interruption, the road from Goppenstein to Visp is opened again. However, in the next few days, new snow and strong wind also cause a high avalanche risk.
This year in the devastated Lötschental valley, the traditional Tschäggättä procession did not start from the village of Blatten, but from Wiler (VS). Despite a lingering sense of mourning, the valley's inhabitants are doing everything they can to keep the tradition alive.
Last Thursday evening dozens of Tschäggättä moved through the Lötschental valley in Valais. After the May 2025 fall, the traditional Tschäggättä procession started this year not in Blatten, but in Wiler VS.

Shortly before noon on Thursday, an avalanche buried the road to the valley near Goppenstein, in the Upper Valais. The Lötschental was thus cut off from road traffic. The car transport of the Lötschberg was also interrupted.
