PV Sindhu Storms Into Australian Open Semis, Set for Showdown with Yamaguchi
Sindhu needed just 27 minutes to beat Chen Su Yu and reach her second semifinal of the season, while Tanvi Sharma fell to Yamaguchi.
On Friday, World number 10 PV Sindhu reached the Australian Open semifinals at Sydney's Quaycentre, defeating Chinese Taipei's Chen Su Yu 21-6, 21-9 in a commanding 27-minute display.
The two-time Olympic medallist controlled the entire contest, contrasting sharply with her hard-fought 22-20, 21-12 round-of-16 victory against Indian Isharani Baruah in 42 minutes.
Sindhu will face top seed Akane Yamaguchi in a 29th career meeting, with the Indian holding a 15-13 head-to-head advantage despite Yamaguchi's recent dominance.
Indian Tanvi Sharma's quarterfinal run ended after a 21-14, 21-14 loss to Yamaguchi in 32 minutes, while men's doubles pair Hariharan Amsakarunan and Arjun retired during their second game.
Although Sindhu holds the historical advantage, Yamaguchi has demonstrated strong recent form, winning four of their last five encounters heading into the semifinal clash.
