Australia sanctions West Bank extremist settler farms
The measures ban entry and financial dealings with four outposts and three people accused of attacks and intimidation against Palestinians.
On Tuesday, Australia imposed sanctions on four West Bank settler farming outposts and three individuals, targeting those involved in attacks against Palestinians. This marks the first time the Federal Government has sanctioned specific settler outposts.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong stated the sanctions respond to escalating settler violence, which she said is used to "displace Palestinians and perpetuate the settlement enterprise." The penalties aim to uphold international law and protect security in Israel and Palestine.
Sanctioned outposts include Moshe's Farm, Meitarim Farm, Neria's Farm, and Zvi's farm, which Australia says served as bases for extremist attacks. The list also targets Lehava founder Ben Zion Gopstein and extremists Eden Levi and Moshe Sharvit.
Restrictions prohibit the sanctioned individuals from entering Australia and forbid Australians from providing them assets or money. Senator Wong noted the government coordinated these measures with international partners, including New Zealand.
This action follows earlier sanctions applied to Israel's national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who was penalized after posting a video berating activists in May. Australia maintains a long list of diplomatic penalties against far-right Israeli figures.
