Australia politics live: Hastie ‘not after legal action’ following One Nation ‘traitor’ cartoon citing Rinehart backing party
Hastie says the cartoon attacks veterans and his service record after Hanson refused to remove a video that called him a traitor eight times.
On Thursday, Liberal frontbencher Andrew Hastie attacked One Nation leader Pauline Hanson and recruit Barnaby Joyce as "lying cowards" for refusing to remove an online cartoon video that repeatedly labels him a "traitor."
The conflict centers on a "Please Explain" animated video posted on July 23, which depicts the Canning MP as a "traitor" eight times, reportedly targeting his testimony against alleged war criminal Ben Roberts-Smith.
Hastie claims the cartoon is "trashing" his service record and constitutes an attack on veterans who testified in the Federal Court, demanding the party justify the label or delete the video.
Hanson refused to delete the cartoon, calling it satire, while Joyce stated he does not believe the MP is a traitor and offered to speak directly with Hastie.
Tensions persist as the nine-minute video remains pinned to Senator Hanson's X account, while Liberal frontbencher Hastie continues criticizing the party leadership as "weak" and unfit for office.
