Austin Man Jailed After 130 MPH Chase Ends In Crash

A 20 year-old Austin man remains in Scott County Jail on multiple charges after attempting to elude Indiana State Police last week. Aiden S. Cole Aiden S. Cole, 20, of the 3000 block of Mary Lane in rural Johnson Township east of Austin has been charged with reckless driving in a worksite with workers present, reckless driving causing bodily injury, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement, and leaving the scene of an accident. According to ISP Trooper Javis Roush, he observed Cole’s white Camaro with temporary tags traveling south on I-65 south of Scottsburg at 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The officer reported the Camaro was following semi-tractor trailers too closely and weaving in and out of traffic at speeds reaching 100 mph approaching a worksite. Roush activated his emergency lights and siren and the Camaro began pulling away from the officer. The Camaro continued to weave through traffic southbound. “At this time my police vehicle was at 130 mph and the Camaro began to gain distance from me after I activated my emergency lights,” Trooper Roush wrote in the probable cause affidavit. Roush said in the court document that the Camaro turned off its lights occasionally turning them on and off as it continued to weave through traffic in the work zone. The Chevrolet exited the interstate at the Henryville. Roush wrote in the court document “As I approached the top of the exit ramp stop signs, I observed a cloud of dust and could no longer hear or see the Camaro.” Police found the vehicle wrecked on the southbound on-ramp to I-65 where it had taken out a large portion of guardrail. Cole was located about 200 yards away at a nearby residence with injuries from the crash. When officers asked Cole why he ran, he responded, “ I did not want to get in trouble with my probation,” according to the probable cause affidavit.  A 15-year-old female passenger from Henryville was found inside Cole’s Chevrolet Camaro and had sustained facial and head injuries in the crash. Both were taken to Louisville Hospitals for treatment. After Cole was released from the hospital, Trooper Roush went to his rural Austin home Tuesday evening where he was arrested and booked into Scott County Jail. On Oct. 15 Circuit Court Magistrate Alison Frazier set his bond at $60,000 cash only and ordered a 15 day hold on Cole. He remains incarcerated.
