Tesla’s $50,000 Deposit List for the New Roadster Is Open Again Ahead of Planned October 1 Reveal
Tesla is asking buyers for a refundable $50,000 deposit while offering no confirmed delivery date or final specifications for the redesigned Roadster.
On September 21, 2026, Tesla reopened reservations for the Roadster, requiring a $50,000 total payment ahead of an October 1 unveiling event in Waco, Texas. The reservation requires an immediate $5,000 credit card payment, followed by a $45,000 wire transfer within 10 days.
Tesla first unveiled the next-generation Roadster in 2017 with promised 2020 deliveries, but the vehicle faced repeated delays over nine years, leaving original reservation holders waiting without a production car.
The Federal Aviation Administration established a temporary flight restriction over SpaceX's McGregor testing site through October 2, covering a 1.5-nautical-mile radius up to 10,000 feet and citing hazards under 14 CFR 91.137.
CEO Elon Musk claimed the Roadster could feature a "SpaceX option package" with thrusters enabling extreme acceleration or brief hovering, teasing that the October 1 presentation will be a "banger."
The Waco event on October 1 is intended to provide long-awaited pricing, production targets, and specifications, potentially answering whether the Roadster will feature the previously teased hovering technology.
