Sweatpants and windbreakers are banned in classrooms at a secondary school in Gouda. The school introduced a strict dress code after the summer holidays, following the English example. Many parents and students are outraged, but the school is proud of its approach ‘to keep street culture out’ and sees that other schools in the Netherlands are watching closely.
It is fantastic that a school in Gouda dares to ban sweatpants, says Angela de Jong. ‘At an English school, they also hang the report cards out in the open in the hallway, and school results went up enormously there.’
Tracksuits, revealing tops, windbreakers, or flip-flops: none of it is allowed anymore at a secondary school in Gouda. Good or bad?
