At least three killed in Pakistani airstrike on Afghanistan, Tolo News reports
Afghan officials said the strikes hit civilian homes and other sites, while Pakistan said it targeted militant hideouts and killed 28 fighters.
On Monday, Pakistani airstrikes hit residential areas in Afghanistan's Kunar and Paktika provinces, killing at least three civilians and wounding several others, Tolo News reported.
Islamabad alleges militant groups use Afghan soil to launch cross-border attacks, justifying the strikes as counter-insurgency operations. The Taliban rejects these charges, asserting militancy is Pakistan's internal problem.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan documented more than 750 civilian casualties from cross-border violence in early 2026, with 399 additional casualties recorded from April-June.
Warning of a "crushing response," Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid defended Afghanistan's right to territorial sovereignty. The strikes followed a deadly attack on a Pakistani police facility two days prior.
These strikes threaten to reignite cross-border hostilities between the neighbours, who engaged in their worst conflict in years last February. Persistent security deadlocks continue to complicate diplomatic border management.
