Six people died and over a dozen were injured as tornadoes struck Oklahoma and Michigan during a late-week outbreak, damaging homes and causing widespread power outages.
- Late Thursday into early Friday, multiple tornadoes struck western Oklahoma and southern Michigan, killing at least four people, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said.
- Meteorologists said a clash of warm, moist Gulf of Mexico and cooler Canadian air masses created conditions favorable for tornadic storms, while the Storm Prediction Center said more than 7 million Americans were at highest risk Friday, with nearly 25 million people at slightly lesser risk.
- Using phone-ping technology, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol located a mother and daughter found dead in their vehicle, while more than 500 people lost power and damage hit Three Rivers, Michigan.
- Michigan officials activated the state Emergency Operations Center to coordinate relief and ordered damage assessments, while the National Weather Service planned damage-survey teams to confirm tornadoes and Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt offered condolences and urged prayers for victims.
- Forecasters warned that severe thunderstorms and tornado risk would continue into Friday evening, with the National Weather Service urging weather radio and shelter plans near the start of tornado season.
