- On Saturday, a car explosion outside a police station in Coahuayana, Michoacán killed at least three and injured six, with the state government saying an `explosive device` caused the blast.
- Amid rising cartel violence, federal troops and marines increased operations last month as President Claudia Sheinbaum sent 2,000 troops atop 4,300 permanent forces and 4,000 in neighboring states; designated cartels Jalisco New Generation, United Cartels and The New Michoacán Family operate in Michoacán.
- Images circulating online showed a completely burned-out vehicle at the blast site, and authorities said remains found scattered near the blast site included the driver of the pickup truck.
- The blast damaged nearby buildings and scattered victims, Hector Zepeda said federal operation brought many marines, patrols were suspended, and five others remained hospitalized after the explosion.
- Explosives are increasingly used by criminal groups in Michoacán, with seizures rising from 160 in 2022 to about 3,000 last year and more than 2,000 so far this year, according to the state security agency.
