In Kenya, wildlife experts are pushing back over the theory that blames 20 mysterious elephant deaths on cyanide poisoning from pesticides used on nearby farmland. Laurent Berstecher explains.
Lying on the ground, Genghis Khan fights in vain to get up, getting just to spin. He will soon become the 20th pachyderm in the region of Amboseli, Kenya, succumbing to a mysterious disease. Tipping over him, veterinarians inject glucose, a palliative measure given the lack of answers about what is wrong with this 11-year-old male, whose eyes are red and who fights to breathe. He will die less than a week later.
