'Massive' Russian Attack on Ukraine Kills 16, Injures at Least 100, Ukrainian Officials Say

Officials said the attacks also injured dozens and damaged residential buildings and infrastructure as Ukraine seeks more air defense aid.

  • On Thursday, Russian forces struck Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, killing 12 people including a 12-year-old child. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported four deaths in the capital, while attacks in Dnipro, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia caused additional casualties.
  • Ukrainian officials reported that Russia launched 361 drones and 21 missiles during a 13-hour period ending Wednesday. Air defenses downed 349 drones and 20 missiles, though several strikes still damaged residential buildings and port infrastructure.
  • Debris struck an 18-storey building in Kyiv as a drone, flying low, slammed into the structure. Klitschko said 45 city residents were injured, with large fires breaking out in northern and central districts.
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that strengthening air defenses remains a priority, stating, "We need air defence missiles every single day" to counter ongoing strikes. He described the attacks across seven cities as "brutal."
  • Defence leaders from more than 50 countries committed to sending additional aid to Ukraine as international support intensifies. Britain announced it will send 120,000 drones this year to bolster the nation's defense capabilities.
