CAMBODIA, AUG 2 – Two Malaysian-led ASEAN teams separately monitor ceasefire along Cambodia-Thailand border after clashes, with mine clearance underway, officials said.
- On August 3, Cambodia’s National Defence Ministry announced an interim ASEAN Defence Attache Observer Team led by Malaysia will monitor the ceasefire in Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces.
- Clashes began on July 24 along the disputed border, leading to a ceasefire effective from July 28, involving Cambodian and Thai soldiers.
- Led by Malaysian military attachés, two observation teams will operate separately, supported by Vietnamese and Philippine assistant military attachés.
- Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam will conduct field observations on August 3, while Cambodia is ready to cooperate with Malaysia-led monitoring and GBC talks may prioritize releasing 18 soldiers.
- Border talks in Malaysia are scheduled from August 4 to 7 as part of the July 28 ceasefire framework, which Cambodia has welcomed.
