After the armistice of June 22, 1940, a substantial part of the world of culture oscillates between powerless revolt, resignation and active collaboration. Over the months, however, past the sideration, writers, artists and intellectuals join the Resistance. Still others, by coercion or by choice, take the path of exile, putting their talent to the benefit of free France and the fight against Nazi oppression.
