Army Brass Vows to Take All Measures to Ensure Pakistan's 'Rightful Share of Water' Amid IWT Tensions with India
The army said it will take all measures necessary to secure Pakistan’s water share and counter threats to sovereignty, citing 29 militants killed in recent strikes.
On Monday, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir presided over the 276th Corps Commanders' Conference at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, affirming a "resolute commitment" to ensure Pakistan's "rightful share of water" amid Indus Waters Treaty tensions.
India and Pakistan have managed the Indus River system since the 1960 treaty; tensions escalated after India unilaterally suspended the accord last year, leaving Pakistan dependent on roughly 80 per cent of the system's water.
Following last year's conflict, Marka-e-Haq, military leaders noted "increased reliance on an evolving pattern of externally supported hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns" aimed at destabilizing Pakistan, condemning state-sponsored financing of terrorist proxies.
The armed forces declared Pakistan has an "unequivocal right to defend its people from terrorism," with Intelligence-Based Operations under Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq continuing against Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan operating from Afghan Taliban-controlled territory.
Reaffirming Pakistan's support for the Kashmir cause, the forum emphasized that "true regional stability hinges entirely on granting the Kashmiri people their inalienable right to self-determination," while CDF Munir directed commanders to advance the multi-domain transformation plan.
