Arizona governor approves up to $500M in taxpayer funds to upgrade home of Diamondbacks
DOWNTOWN PHOENIX, ARIZONA, JUN 27 – The $500 million sales tax funding will support infrastructure upgrades including air conditioning and the retractable roof, with the Diamondbacks adding $250 million to the project, officials said.
Last Friday, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs signed legislation allocating up to $500 million for Chase Field renovations in Phoenix.
On June 23, the Arizona Legislature approved House Bill 2704 after months of debate over the team's potential relocation risks, leading to the funding for Chase Field renovations.
The legislation captures up to $500 million in sales taxes from Chase Field and nearby facilities, with the team contributing $250 million toward infrastructure upgrades over 30 years.
Initial renovations will repair the air conditioning, install a new video board, and fix cracks, with new seating expected after two seasons.
In the long term, over $750 million in public and private funds secure a lease through 2027 and facilitate extension talks with Maricopa County.
