Are you the next 007? Applications open up for MI5 internship role
The eight-week paid programme offers specialist training, investigative team experience and a route into MI5’s Intelligence Officer Development Programme.
MI5 has launched an eight-week summer work placement for 2027, running from June 28 to August 20 across two sites in Central and West London. The programme offers university students a hands-on introduction to national security.
Applicants must be from a black, Asian, mixed heritage, or economically disadvantaged background. MI5 stated these requirements reflect a "current underrepresentation" of such groups in its workforce.
Interns will be paid £4,849 plus accommodation for 36 hours of work per week, with the placement beginning with two weeks of specialist training before joining investigative teams.
Candidates must be British citizens to apply; regarding dual nationality, MI5 states the agency "may impose restrictions on your postings, work travel and/or general use" as a condition of employment.
The programme concludes with an opportunity to apply for the Intelligence Officer Development Programme, as MI5 seeks candidates "driven by integrity, respect, creativity, professionalism and the desire to have a positive impact on the UK.
