Archaeologists find remains of important Roman bridgehead at site of "old fortress"

A fortified bridgehead for controlling river crossings has been discovered near Roman Carnuntum. The unique find in Austria is part of the Danube Limes and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The bridgehead was key to the Amber Road, preserved from the time of the Marcomannic Wars.
